About the Artist
After many years in the corporate and non-profit world I began to experience a desire to rediscover my creative expression that had flourished  during my school years. As I was trying several different media a close friend continually encouraged me to give photography  a try. So I sought out another friend who was a professional photographer for the best advice on how and where to begin. His advise was invaluable and six months later I started night school courses and I haven’t looked back, taking courses at Vancouver Community College and finishing at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario.

Knowing that I wanted to do fine art I was drawn to black and white. Experimenting with different looks I found myself drawn to hand painting. This offered me a dual challenge in my art and expanded the artistic and creative horizon.

Coming from the west coast and having spent most of my life on or near the water it is probably understandable that I have settled  in a small village by the shores of Lake Huron . I believe my work reflects both my quiet surroundings and the inner peace I live with as a Christian.

The peaceful and beautiful side of life all around us is often overlooked in our “hurry-up society”. So I attempt to share some of it with you through  pictures that speak to the human experience through  hand painting and toning of some of my  pieces. I hope that my images relate a sense of peace to you or possibly invoke pleasant memories for your enjoyment and pleasure.

Black and white photography is one of the most powerful and passionate forms of the visual arts and I feel extremely blessed to be a part of it.  I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy doing it for you.

About the Art Work
Each of my photographs is an original photograph, taken by me during my travels through Canada.  Most of these photographs are limited edition prints.
The images are real. No graphic or digital manipulation has been used.
My images have been scanned in at a low resolution to discourage Internet theft.
I work in 35mm using Nikon equipment. I prefer natural light and rarely “set up” my shots. In my travels I hope to reflect the beauty of Canada from coast to coast.

I am drawn more towards still life but if a landscape or nature shot catches my eye you will more than likely see some evidence of humankind within the final image.

The process I use for producing my images is strictly traditional. All work is developed and printed in the darkroom using only Ilford chemicals and archival papers. For me, the darkroom is where most of the magic takes place and it is important for me to maintain complete control of the creative process from beginning to end.

Once my prints dry, some are then hand toned. The majority of my images then have some part hand painted using oils. Usually a single item is painted but all colour is added by hand. I believe some of my shots need to remain black and white to retain the integrity of the  image.
